About Us
Mission
The mission of The Los Angeles Challenge is to promote positive change in the lives of economically disadvantaged children by providing opportunities for achievement through education.  We help create these opportunities by supporting an educational environment that emphasizes academics, character development, personal attention, hard work, and rigor resulting in the joys of learning and the preparedness necessary for future educational endeavors.

Overview
The Los Angeles Challenge is a charitable organization whose goal is to provide economically disadvantaged children an opportunity to realize their full potential by providing financial means to obtain a quality education.

In order to identify candidates, the Los Angeles Challenge works closely with concerned social workers from social agencies that are familiar with economically disadvantaged families in various parts of Los Angeles.  The Los Angeles Challenge believes in giving opportunities to motivated families with children from elementary to high school ages.  An important requirement for selection into the program is that the child's family actively and enthusiastically supports the Los Angeles Challenge and its goals.  Ideally, the activities of the Los Angeles Challenge focus on family units rather than on individual children.

The programs are funded by contributions from individuals, private foundations, and corporations.  The Los Angeles Challenge has received tax-exempt status from the IRS under section 501(c)(3).

Whenever possible, the administrative and ancillary services of the Los Angeles Challenge are provided on a pro bono basis, allowing nearly 100% of the contributions to be used for the direct benefit of the children.

The "challenge" of The Los Angeles Challenge is to promote positive change in the lives of children by providing opportunities for education and achievement.
